Construction Advancement Institute Awards Six $3,000 College Scholarship Grant

    TARRYTOWN, NY - The Construction Advancement Institute, a leading non-profit advocacy group works to improve construction industry activities in the region, awarded six college scholarships at an awards luncheon here on July 1, 2010.  Each student received a $3,000 grant for undergraduate studies, it was announced by Vincent Colletti, chairman of the organization The Construction Advancement Institute.
    "The CAI developed this program to encourage students to pursue careers in public works and civil construction and to strengthen the depth of the workforce of the future," Mr. Colletti explained.  "The construction industry has always been dependent upon new blood joining the workforce with new ideas, enthusiasm and vision.  We want to continue that tradition and encourage that process which will benefit public works as well as private-sector construction and building."  The winners of the 2010 CAI Scholarships are:  Molley Rooney, 18, of Patchogue, NY who will attend Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY, pursuing a degree in Engineering; Joseph Piaza, 19, of South Salem, NY, who will attend Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, pursuing a degree in Engineering; Justin Lundy, 18, of Wallkill, NY, who will attend Boston University in Boston, pursuing a degree in Engineering;  Eric Lorenz, 18, of Briarcliff Manor, NY will attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, pursuing a degree in Biochemical Engineering & Applied Mathematics; Lia Ferri, 21, of Cortlandt Manor, NY who will be a junior at Quinnipac University in Hamden, CT, continuing her degree in Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Economics; and Danielle Ferri, 18, or Cortlandt Manor, NY will attend Villanova University near Philadelphia pursuing a degree in Mathematics. 
    To be eligible for college scholarship consideration, students must be closely related to someone who is an employee of a company that contributes to the Construction Industry Advancement of Westchester & the Mid-Hudson Region, or be a child of a union member that particpates in the Industry Advancement Programs.  These organizations represent more than 25 companies and more than 15,000 workers who are employees of companies or members of Carpenters Local No. 11 of Hawthorne, NY, Operating Enigeers Local No. 137 of Briarcliff Manor, NY, Laborers Local No. 253 of Elmsford, NY, and Bricklayers Local No. 5 of Newburgh, NY.  For more information about the Construction Advancement Institute Scholarship program contact Laurel Brunelle at 914-631-6060 or visit the CAI's wesite at www.caiwestchester.org.
